A few years ago, my son Elijah Jr made a very special card to welcome me home as I returned from a mission. The front shows a picture of a lion and a lamb, and inside it reads:
To daddy, welcome home
The lion is for when Jesus will come back strong and brave like a lion
The lamb is when Jesus will die for our sins
The lion wears a breastplate, full of crosses, and a crown resembling the temple. The lamb has a crown of thorns and carries a cross. Elijah was only nine years old at the time, and I marvelled at the wisdom from Heaven my son had received. As Jesus said:
“I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.” (Matthew 11:25)
Our Lord came first as a Lamb, riding on a donkey. He came to save His people, by paying the price for them with His own blood. And when they saw the Lamb riding into Jerusalem they did not reject Him but called out Hoshanna, Hoshanna – save us. The Lamb symbolises the price that was paid for you. You were bought, personally, by the blood of the Lamb.
And the King of Heaven is coming back for His people as a lion in the last days. It will be the Lion, strong and brave, riding on a horse, coming to rescue the people who believe in Him. But the strength and power of the Lion is available to you as a believer right now. In any moment you face a problem, call upon the Lion and he will come to deliver you. Samson called upon Him and he came – and the force of the Lion destroyed some two thousand enemies of the Israelites in the Philistine Temple.
You need to know that you are not alone in trouble – Heaven is watching over you. The Lion is aware of your every situation, and ready to fight your battle. That is why our ministry is called Faith and Victory. As you exercise faith, He will bring you victory in every situation. Even if you messed up yourself. Have faith, like the people of Israel who called out ‘Hoshannah, Hoshannah, save me in my trouble.’ When you are in battle, never doubt that there are angels who have been given charge over you.
The Lion doesn’t walk with you – instead He will come suddenly, in your time of need. When you call upon Him, the Lord will release the force of the Lion to fight your battle, to rescue you, to bring you deliverance.
But every day the Lamb is there, walking with you, as the mercy and goodness of the Lord following you all the days of your life (Psalm 23:6). People might talk about your faults, but He will never talk against you:
“He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.“ (Isaiah 53:7) Instead He covers you. Your sins and faults, no matter how hard stained, can be washed away anytime in the blood of the Lamb.
I pray that this image of the Lion and the Lamb will strengthen your faith today. Mercy and deliverance are yours anytime – only reach out to Him.
